Emmerdale star Danny Miller has spoken about the success of his new audiobook project, revealing that his stories have now been listened to in over 100 countries around the world.

Miller, who plays long-standing character Aaron Dingle in Emmerdale, began recording audiobooks for children last year having been inspired by his young son Albert’s love of reading.

The soap star announced last summer that he was teaming up with his friend, the radio presenter Nigel Clucas, to release a range of spoken stories for children under the name Albert’s Bookshelf.

Miller told BBC News that he decided to launch the project after he returned to filming on Emmerdale following a break from the show, explaining that he didn’t want to miss out on his son’s favourite part of the day – story time.

Revealing how much Albert’s Bookshelf has grown, he said: “We’ve got an app that allows us to see where people are downloading it and there’s some countries, if I’m absolutely honest, I hadn’t even heard of.

“You know, I think, last time I counted, it was 119 countries.”

The actor added that the project has “kind of gone from recording a few books to being this sort of endless ideas of getting more education to the kids”.

Fellow soap stars including Coronation Street‘s Ryan Thomas and Andy Whyment have taken part in Albert’s Bookshelf, joining Miller as guest readers.

Miller and his wife Steph Jones welcomed son Albert in October 2021, before their baby daughter arrived in August 2023.

Earlier this year, the actor admitted that he didn’t enjoy the darker turn for Aaron when he returned to the Dales last autumn, saying that his character’s behaviour got “a bit tedious”.

“I’m more than happy being the soft loveable rogue that Aaron has always been – with a bit of an edge, but not so much edge that he’s just being horrible to everyone,” he said.
