The first installment ofΒ Kevin Costnerβ€˜s Western epic β€œHorizon, an American Saga” is set to premiere out of competition at Cannes Film Festival.

Costner directed the four-part project, which he also stars in with Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington and Jena Malone. The β€œYellowstone” and β€œDances With Wolves” actor will be on the Croisette to present the film on May 19.

Kevin Costner Horizon: An American Saga

β€œHorizon” will also be released in theaters in two parts, with the first installment bowing on June 28 and the second on Aug. 16.

β€œI’d like to thank the Festival de Cannes for including my film β€˜Horizon, an American Saga’ in this year’s selection,” Costner said in a statement. β€œIt’s been 20 years since I’ve had the pleasure of being on the Croisette. I’ve been waiting for the right time to return and I’m proud to say that this time has come.

β€˜Horizon, an American Saga’ is a story that began 35 years ago, and I can’t think of a better place than Cannes to reveal to the world the result of such a wonderful adventure. The French have always supported films and believed deeply in filmmaking. Just as I believe deeply in my film…”

β€œHorizon, an American Saga” is described in the festival’s press release as a β€œmonumental project about the cost, in terms of war and violence, of the construction and expansion of the United States of America.”

Costner’s project joins the Cannes Film Festival out of competition lineup alongside George Miller’s β€œFuriosa: A Mad Max Saga” and opener β€œThe Second Act,” directed by Quentin Dupieux and starring LΓ©a Seydoux and Vincent Lindon.

The full Cannes selection will be unveiled on Thursday. Other films rumored to be making their debuts at the festival include Francis Ford Coppola’s β€œMegalopolis,” the fate of whichΒ VarietyΒ hears is still to be decided, and Yorgos Lanthimos’ β€œKinds of Kindness” starring Emma Stone.
