BBC Casualty chaos as doctors face danger and death in first-look at Christmas special

A fresh trailer for Casualty has been unveiled, hinting at the drama in store for this year’s Christmas special, particularly for character Iain Dean, played by actor Michael Stevenson.

The BBC medical drama, which has been off air since September, is set to make a comeback in December with a unique standalone episode that already looks to be emotional if the first teaser is anything to go by that is.

The trailer provides a sneak peek into the show highlighting the significance of blood donation and reception, as well as the dramatic situation paramedic Iain Dean finds himself in.

While on an emergency call, disaster strikes when his vehicle skids on an icy road, flipping the car upside down. We are then shown the hospital have lost contact with him.

“Control have lost contact with Iain”, a visibly concerned Cam Micklewhite (Barney Walsh) reveals. “I doubt he’ll make it past the hour”, Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless) says as panic descends around the hospital.Casualty star reveals Iain's mental health danger helping Jan | Soaps | Metro News

It is unknown at this stage if Iain is saved from the dangerous situation by his peers or if it’s the last fans will see of him at the famous Holby City Hospital – but one thing is certain, the situation doesn’t look hopeful.

In a chat with Metro, Rebecca Ferguson, Commissioning Editor for BBC Drama spoke about the upcoming episode, explaining: ‘We’re so excited for viewers to see this incredible Christmas special, which genuinely made me gasp. It’s tense, thrilling and super-charged with emotion.”

Roxanne Harvey, Executive Producer for BBC Studios Drama Production, also expressed her pride, stating: “We’re so proud of this life-affirming episode. Beautifully told, with ambitious production values and outstanding performances, this is entertaining, thought-provoking drama at its very best.”

The episode titled All I Want for Christmas is particularly touching, as it features real-life stories from individuals who have been directly affected by blood donations in the UK.

Fans will be delighted to know that the instalment that was penned by Erin Kubicki and directed by Steve Hughes, is set to air this December, followed by the next instalment of Casualty later in the month.
