BBC’s beloved drama Casualty will be absent from its usual Saturday night slot this weekend, leaving fans without their regular dose of hospital drama

The long-standing medical series is being temporarily shelved on Saturday, July 5 due to a sports-packed schedule. Wimbledon 2025 will be taking over BBC One from 7.15pm until 10pm, resulting in the postponement of Casualty and other regular programming.

This scheduling update follows a recent episode that left viewers on edge when Stevie Nash (portrayed by Elinor Lawless) returned to work post-cancer treatment. Despite medical advice to rest, Stevie was eager to dive back into her duties, only to be overwhelmed when a surge of overdose cases hit the emergency department.

Casualty boss on huge format change to show, spoilers and cast exits | Soaps | Metro News

Casualty isn’t alone in experiencing scheduling changes; the BBC’s lineup has seen significant adjustments this week to accommodate Wimbledon and Women’s Euro 2025.

The One Show has also vacated its traditional weeknight spot at 7pm on BBC One for a month. During the final instalment on June 27, host Alex Jones hinted at sports-fuelled anticipations: “We are taking a bit of a break for the next four weeks and we’ll be back on Monday, 28th July but there’s plenty to enjoy like Wimbledon and the Euros.”

In addition, last Monday and Tuesday witnessed EastEnders temporarily relocate to BBC Two for consecutive episodes at 7 pm and 7.30pm. And it’s not just prime-time slots feeling the impact; daytime TV is seeing shifts too, as Escape To The Country has been removed from its regular 3pm weekday position on BBC One to make room for tennis coverage.
