BBC share major Casualty update as future confirmed

Brilliant news appears to be on the horizon for Casualty fans as the  BBC has recently provided an encouraging update regarding the show’s future.

Since the medical drama initially launched in 1986, audiences have witnessed the challenges and drama that unfold for both staff and patients within the Accident and Emergency ward of the fictional Holby City Hospital.

This year saw the conclusion of the 39th series in spectacular fashion, with supporters being treated to a miniseries entitled Supply and Demand, which showcased the opening episodes of series 40.

Casualty was put out to tender in May 2025, with BBC Studios securing the contract to continue producing the cherished series.

The agreement covers three series with production scheduled to commence in Spring 2026, reports Wales Online.

The BBC has confirmed that the programme will remain based in Cardiff whilst continuing to be shot there.

Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, commented: “Casualty is a hugely important, much-loved BBC drama and this tender has ensured it will continue to flourish.

“It was an extremely competitive process, and we would like to thank the shortlisted producers for their high-quality and comprehensive proposals. We look forward to working with BBC Studios as we build on the show’s long-running success.”

Nick Andrews, Head of Commissioning, BBC Cymru Wales, remarked: “Casualty will be supercharging the portrayal of Wales to the UK and beyond and BBC Cymru Wales are delighted. Casualty always breaks new ground, and it has done so again.

Fans of the BBC won’t have to wait much longer for the return of the medical drama, as it’s set to air on January 10.

The gripping final episode left viewers anxious for Ngozi Okoye’s (Adesuwa Oni) fate after a heartbreaking twist saw her plans to depart with her son Obi end tragically.

Upon hearing the news of its comeback, people were quick to share their thoughts on the upcoming series. One individual commented on their Facebook announcement: “Will be interested to see what happens to Ngozi Okoye given the incident with the alcohol relapse at the airport at the end of the last series – what a cliffhanger! I hope she pulls through and has a happy life with Nicole Pipe.”Ngozi Okoye
