Casualty fans rejoice! The BBC soap is returning to our screens after an extended break – and you don’t have long to wait.
The last season ended on an almighty cliffhanger with Ngozi Okoye seemingly left for dead when she suffered a devastating head injury following a relapse in her sobriety journey.
With her life left in the balance and her plans to leave Holby for a new life in Nigeria with her son Obi, fans will soon have the answers they crave after soap bosses confirmed the show’s return.

In a post on Instagram featuring several teaser snaps, they wrote: “#Casualty returns. 10th January 2026 on BBC One and @bbciplayer.”
Fans were quick to air their excitement in the comment section, with one user writing: “Can’t wait, really need my Saturday night fix back.”

However, many pointed out that this return date means we won’t be getting the annual Casualty Christmas special.
“I’ve been waiting for Strictly to finish so Casualty would resume! Gutted there won’t be an Xmas special ,” a third penned.

Another commented: “Christmas special?? But still so excited for it to return!!!”
It comes after it was announced that the soap would be changing location from Bristol to Wales, having been filmed at Cardiff’s Roath Lock Studios since 2011.
The long-term future of the soap has been confirmed, with BBC Studios set to produce the next three seasons.
Director of BBC Drama Lindsay Salt said: “Casualty is a hugely important, much loved BBC drama and this tender has ensured it will continue to flourish.
“It was an extremely competitive process and we would like to thank the shortlisted producers for their high quality and comprehensive proposals. We look forward to working with BBC Studios as we build on the show’s long-running success.”
