After taking an extended break, long running BBC drama, Casualty, is making a comeback next year.
Long-running BBC medical favourite, Casualty, is coming back, it has been revealed. After an extended break, the hit show will return to UK screens next year.
Fans will hope it addresses the monster cliffhanger at the end of the last series, which saw Ngozi Okoye left for dead with a head injury after relapsing in her battle against alcoholism. Ngozi was engulfed in a storyline which saw her planning a life away from Holby, in Nigeria, with son Obi – but has that all gone wrong?
We will find out from January 10, when BBC bosses confirmed the show would return to BBC One and iPlayer. And fans can also rest easy for the future, with the BBC confirming the medical drama would be produced for another three seasons at least.
Director of BBC Drama, Lindsay Salt, said: “Casualty is a hugely important, much loved BBC drama and this tender has ensured it will continue to flourish. It was an extremely competitive process and we would like to thank the shortlisted producers for their high quality and comprehensive proposals. We look forward to working with BBC Studios as we build on the show’s long-running success.”

Viewers reacted with joy to the news, with one writing they “can’t wait, I really need my Saturday-night fix back”, while another said it was “about time too, we have waited long enough for Casualty to come back”.
However, some pointed out the return means there would be no Christmas special – a usually-epic episode for Casualty – with one saying: “I’ve been waiting for Strictly to finish so Casualty would resume! Gutted there won’t be an Xmas special.” ANother asked: “Christmas special? But still so excited for it to return.”
