Neighbours legend Alan Fletcher has revealed the one huge change he made to a recent storyline concerning his character Karl Kennedy and Darcy Tyler.
Ahead of Neighbours’ grand conclusion on 11 December, the actor, who first joined the soap in 1994, shared some behind-the-scenes secrets with TV Tonight.
Asked what he’d miss most about playing Karl, Fletcher replied: “The comedy, probably, the most. I mean, he’s a bit of a goofball, and he’s arrogant and flawed in many ways. The most interesting thing about playing a character, most often, is examining their flaws.”
“Recently, I did a story with Darcy Tyler where Karl is rendered incapable by Darcy,” the actor continued.
“I loved that story but I asked for changes to the script to make sure that this was clear: Karl was a victim of his own hubris, and he blindly pursued Darcy and investigated him on the basis of believing he was right, he was going to be the big detective and prove Darcy wrong.

“Of course, all he did was unleash Darcy’s worst instincts and put himself in danger. So it’s those sorts of things that I really liked exploring with Karl.
“He often would do things without really thinking through the consequences, like going on a motorcycle touring holiday of Europe when he’s never ridden a motorcycle. That sort of stupidity. I loved all that notion that he’s a bit of a twit. Playing that has always been a great joy.”
Marking the end of an era, Neighbours – which was cancelled by Amazon in February – has teased what’s to come in the final episode.
“Shane and Paul continue to rally against one another in their bid to lure their friends and neighbours to buy into their respective new living arrangements: Ramsay Hills and Robinson Towers,” the synopsis reads.

“While Susan is firmly against either option, other residents allow themselves to be whisked away on tours of the prospective sites.
“With old and new friends coming together to honour the Ramsay Street legacy, Susan isn’t ready to give up the fight for her beloved street.”
