Ryan Hawley says Corriedale will change Emmerdale and Coronation Street forever

Emmerdale’s Ryan Hawley has confirmed the upcoming drama taking place in Corriedale is going to change Emmerdale and Coronation Street forever.

The crossover episode, which will air on January 5, will see multiple residents from Weatherfield and Emmerdale get caught up in a multi-vehicle crash.

Characters confirmed to be featuring include Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), Carla Connor (Alison King) and David Platt (Jack P Shepherd). Then there are residents Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey), Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) and Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) who also get stuck in the roadside nightmare.

Another soap star featuring in Corriedale is Oliver Farnworth, who is reprising his role as John Sugden, the crazed medic from Emmerdale.Oliver Farnworth at the Corriedale premier

John was responsible for many crimes during his time in the village, including killing Nate Robinson, drugging Aaron and holding Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) hostage.

We last saw John in the autumn. He went on the run after help from Caleb Miligan (William Ash) and hasn’t been seen since. Prior to going, John told Caleb that he’d stay away from Emmerdale and Aaron, but the fact he’s returning certainly suggests he’s focused on getting some sort of revenge on his husband and Robert.

‘It’s going to change both shows forever’
Reflecting on the peril that lies ahead for Robron in the lead up to Corriedale and during the event itself, star Ryan Hawley told Metro: ‘It starts off full throttle! The events of it afterwards are going to change both shows forever. It’s high stakes. It’s a big spectacle and very exciting.’

Joining Ryan for the chat was Oliver Farnworth, who reflected on the return of fellow villain Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill) and said: ‘With the introduction of Kev, it’s gone from a love triangle to a love square! You’ve got so much jeopardy involved, everyone wants their own individual selfish thing from that square. It’s a messy situation.’

Pondering over his reaction when he learnt about Corriedale, Oliver added: ‘Having been in both shows now, I was super excited. It’s just iconic, isn’t it? I knew that with Duncan Foster directing it, it was going to be good.

‘He couldn’t believe it! He thought which character am I going to play?’, Ryan joked, of course noting Oliver’s Corrie character Andy Carver.

Oliver summed the episode up by calling it an ‘iconic mash up’, while Ryan said it’s ‘a one off occasion that’ll never happen again. It’s a celebration of soap, I think it’ll be brilliant.’
