Being a little bit late to a TV show can sometimes bring on a serious case of FOMO—you can really feel like you’re missing out when everyone’s talking about something and you don’t have the slightest clue. But there are also some key silver linings, mainly the fact that any mystery about the future (or lack therof) of a show has likely been completely cleared up (or, in some cases, evaporated).

One case being: 1883, the very first Yellowstone spinoff series to air on Paramount+. The show originally aired from December 2021 through to February 2022 for subscribers to the streaming service (and Yellowstone-verse completists) to watch (or binge to their heart’s content). But whether there were late arrivals to the 1883 wing of the Yellowstone story via Paramount+, or otherwise, the story has since definitively figured out its direction.

The series recently got its linear TV debut, running as a summer limited series on the Paramount Network. So if that is how you took in 1883 for the first time, we welcome you—and have some definitive news about the future of the show, and where you can look for the next chapter of the story.

Will there be an 1883 Season 2?

For those of you who either binged 1883 recently on Paramount+, or watched on the Paramount Network: welcome. But since it’s been well over a year since 1883 initially aired, we do have an answer to this question—there will not be an 1883 Season 2. “We wanted to make a ten-hour movie that ended, and that’s what we did,” co-creator and showrunner Taylor Sheridan told Deadline.

The 1883 story continues in 1923

The good news, though, is there’s a whole second spinoff series where you can continue the generational Dutton story. That second series is called 1923, and it stars Harrison Ford (!) and Helen Mirren (!). And since it aired in late 2022 into 2023, the first season is already complete—and so you can binge to your heart’s content. And unlike 1883, there are actually plans for more 1923 seasons. 1883 also has a de facto spinoff coming in Paramount+’s Lawmen: Bass Reeves

While the show’s won’t overlap in story, Paramount+ is debuting a series this fall titled Lawmen: Bass Reeves that will star Academy Award nominee David Oyelowo (Selma) as the legendary titular law enforcement officer of the old west. While the series won’t crossover with any of the Yellowstone-esque aspects of the story, it was originally conceived as a spinoff with the title 1883: Bass Reeves.
